Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
We purchased the 7-acre property in 1998. Although it had been a bed and breakfast before, we recognized the property's need for some renovations and upgrades. We re-graded the land, adding a french drain and parking areas; new plumbing and electrical; new propane heat system and central air conditioning; in-room bathrooms.
What is your primary product or service?
quality, clean lodging accommodations
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
My (Brenda's) college major was Business Management, and I'd always wanted to run my own business. Since I love cooking and baking, I initially thought a catering business would be the way to go. Then my aunt had opened a bed and breakfast in Gettysburg in the 1980's, and we'd helped her run the b&b on weekends they were out of town, so we could get a feel for what a bed and breakfast business would be like. Because we love history and Georgian architecture, we were most interested in looking for a colonial-era stone house.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We are intentional about creating a safe, family environment for our guests. We enjoy interacting with our many guests from different countries and walks of life, especially around the breakfast table! I (Brenda) was born and raised in Lancaster County, so I am knowledgeable about area attractions and readily promote the county and its many venues.
